Utility back Hodge out of Wallaby tour with broken ankle

SYDNEY — Utility back Reece Hodge has been ruled out of Australia's four season-ending rugby tests after breaking his ankle in training.

Coach Michael Cheika made the announcement when the Wallabies arrived in Japan on Sunday ahead of next Saturday's third Bledisloe Cup match against New Zealand in Yokohama near Tokyo.

The All Blacks have already clinched the series with wins in the first two matches.

Hodge, who has played all nine of Australia's tests in 2018, is expected to be off his feet for at least two months, Cheika said.

Hodge's replacement has not been named for the tour which also includes away tests in November against Wales, Italy and England.
