The Top 4 Tips to Fly Power Kites

Those who have had the opportunity to fly power kites already know they are designed a specific way. These are geared to actually pull the person flying it. There are 3 prime power kites you will see today; the supported leading edge, leading edge inflatables and foils. Individuals who enjoy these are usually just having a good time and adding doing so on ground boards or from vehicles. If you want to try this with a vehicle there should be everything from a kiteboard, buggy and landboard to all-terrain skates, skis, and various other options. They also come with anywhere from 2-5 line and some sort of bar to grip on to while enjoying them.

Variety is a word that is definitely used when talking about power kites. They come in all different shapes and sizes that can be anywhere from 1.5 square meters to 50. The thing you have to remember is that they are various ones because of the different ways to fly them. For instance; one trainer kite tip would be that using a boat will mean you purchase certain power kites that are geared for that type of speed and velocity. Take a boat called Jacob’s Ladder back in 1982 that used a power kite to hit 25 knots in sailing speed. Twenty-six years later a kiteboard exceeded 50 knots.

If this sounds like something you would like to try, here are four tips for successfully flying a power kite.

1) Always start out with a two-line trainer kite. Remember these pull you around, so if this is for a child or even a small adult, the kite should be somewhere around 1.2 to 1.4 meters. These are easier to control, but it you do want a little more power then you might reach as high as 1.8 meters. These need minuscule amounts of wind to fly, but it’s important to understand that even the same power kites in size will lift and handle differently. So stick with a predictable steady kite in the beginning. This way you can master the basics and start out flying in a forward direction.

2. Familiarize yourself with the “wind window.” This is the region above ground in which power kites can fly. If you fly your power kite in different parts of the wind window, you will get different levels of pull and different directions. At the edges of the wind window, power goes down drastically. If you’re not sure how much power you’ll be getting, you should launch from the edge of the wind window and test the kite by dipping it to the power zone. If the conditions in the power part of the wind window are beyond your skill level, use your safety system to abort the ride safely.

3. At minimum, wear a helmet when power kiting. There are helmets specifically for land uses and helmets specifically for water use. Knee pads and wrist guards are also a good idea for land use. For using power kites over water, impact vests, gloves, and goggles are recommended to maximize safety. But whether you’re power kiting on land or water, a helmet is a necessity.

4) Beginners should focus on trying power kites on land first. The biggest reason for this is because the water resistance requires more power, which means it will be more difficult to control. Even when it is time to work on your water power kiting we recommend taking water lessons before you start.

Once you’re able to get out there and enjoy everything this sport has to offer, it’s quite addicting. Why? The progression is really what catches everyone’s attention. If you start out with a trainer kite (the two-line), eventually you want to move up to kite sailing, kiteboarding, and every other option out there. Just remember that it can be dangerous, so it’s extremely important to wear that safety gear.

The more you try, the more fun you will have with power kites. Plus, you may end up liking one style more than another. Whether its with buggies, boards, skates or skis, there are plenty of options available. Heck, you might even check out snowboarding power kiting and experience the crazy adrenaline rush levels there. What it comes down to though is everyone has to start out at the beginning. The more knowledge you have around the sport, the easier it will be to fly power kites.

The Rockets Look for Success Without Yao and Artest

The Houston Rockets possibly over achieved last season stretching a 7 game series with the champs Los Angeles Lakers. They fought hard, but just couldn’t pull it out.

Many wondered whether the Rockets could quietly emerge as a sleeper in the West, possibly one of the only teams with the ability to upset the Lakers in a series.

This nearly happened, as the Houston Rockets took the Los Angeles Lakers to a full seven games during the Western Conference semifinals last season. While the Lakers won this game 7 by a whole’ points, the Rockets had LA’s number during a few of these games, leaving many wondering just how dangerous this efficient basketball team was.

Under the effective leadership of head coach Rick Adelman, the Rockets team from last year will return for another season of basketball; only one thing has changed. Ron Artest, an integral part of this team, will no longer be a Houston Rocket. In fact, he’s now with the very team that put an end to Houston’s season last year.

The loss of Yao Ming for the entire season is devastating. While the Rockets have tough, physical players and will give their best efforts night in and night out – the Rockets can’t compete in the West seriously without Yao Ming.

Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, Shane Battier, Aaron Brooks, and the rest of the team have a lot of work cut out for them. These guys do like a challenge.

Tracey McGrady can’t stay healthy either. McGrady is only 30 years old but this is his 12th NBA season and his body has a lot of miles on it already. McGrady never played all 82 games in a season – the most was 78 games in the 04′-05′ season. McGrady’s scoring average has decreased every season 02′-03′ also.

With that in mind, they do still have a deep team and have done well without him. If T-Mac can stay healthy and Yao does return this year, that’s a dangerous combo.

Can Danny Granger Lead the Indiana Pacers to the Playoffs?

The Indiana Pacers season did not live up their standards in 08′-09′ winning only 36 games. This is not how most remember the Pacers, but the Miller days are over.

The Indiana Pacers’ Danny Granger had a breakout season, and put himself on the map as one of the best players in the NBA. Few people realize this, as the Indiana Pacers are a below average team that gets little coverage.

Granger’s scoring averages have increased every year since he has been in the league since 04′. 08′-09′ Granger was fifth in scoring at 25.1 points per game – look for another year similar this season as well.

The Pacers have a young team with a good upside. The defense was their death blow last season giving up more points then they could score. More emphasis needs to be put on defense; we know the team can score.

His three point shooting was exceptional, as Granger averaged 2.7 three pointers made per game, and shot at a percentage that exceeded 40 percent. The Indiana Pacers were thrilled with this production and made it clear throughout the course of the season.

The Pacers will have to improve on their 36 win season if they expect to make the playoffs. The Pacers did draft A.J. Price and Tyler Hansbrough – what playing time they will see should probably be limited in the beginning of the season but increase as the season moves forward. Unless you are an outstanding rookie, rookies see little action their first season.

The last time the Pacers finished with a record above .500 was in the 04′-05′ season – Pacers fans would hope to avoid another sub .500 season for the fifth straight year.

The Pacers should win more then 36 games this upcoming season. The Pacers have a chance at the 8th or 7th seed even if everyone plays up to their potential and the defense improves. Granger should have an all-star season and be among the leaders in scoring once again.

UFC To Get A New Investor

Current WWE executive, and Vice President Shane McMahon, who will leave the company at the beginning of January, is looking into the possibility of buying a financial interest within the UFC, and has cashed out $50 of his $80 million dollars in WWE stock to do so.

UFC President Dana White has always said that he would be willing to let someone take a ‘piece of the pie’ in his billion dollar empire, and while it may seem unorthodox, Shane McMahon would be the perfect partner. It is reported that Shane and the UFC President have already had meetings, and Shane was also present in the crowd at UFC 91.

It is well documented that UFC are now overtaking the WWE in PPV sales, but whereas WWE has had a 10 year head start on the UFC, Shane believes it will never reach the heights that it did in the early’90’s, and the UFC’s merchandise sales are still suffering. This is where McMahon comes in.

He is well known for securing large international business deals, something the UFC has been trying to do for two years, and during the UFC Fight Club last week in Vegas, Dana White declined to discuss anything that was said in the meeting with McMahon, just citing him as “a good friend” and “you never know.”

I know what you are thinking “this sounds a bit weird with the WWE Shane McMahon buying into the UFC” but all in all this could be an excellent peace of business for the UFC. Shane McMachon has a wealth of business knowledge that can only enhance the UFC image worldwide. The only downside is when people think of Shane McMahon they think of the WWE which can’t be good for the UFC. As we all know WWE is completely unreal a bit like a pantomime with good and bad guys. The UFC however is the complete opposite! Will this have a negative effect on the UFC? I personally don’t think so! However if that thought comes to me then I’m sure it will come to other people.

Either way, without Shane McMahon the UFC will continue to grow its numbers worldwide!

Occupations in Deep Sea Diving

Have you ever thought about an elite career? If you have, then you may have a lot of different careers in mind. If you enjoy scuba diving, then you may be wondering what type of occupation you can get from scuba diving aside from being a dive master. Aside from just being able to explore the ocean, you will find out that there are careers that involve deep sea diving.

There are a lot of occupations that involve deep sea diving. One such occupation is that of being a commercial diver. This kind of diving requires a lot of bravery and stringent qualifications.

Deep sea divers are involved in a load of sorts of work. One is salvage operations on sunken ships, while others include the cleaning of the hulls of ships. Deep sea divers are also needed on deep sea oil rigs to repair pipes underwater as well as clean steel.

There is a wide scope of projects that require commercial divers. However, training is very thorough as you will have to deal with dangerous materials undersea, such as high explosives and you will be in hazardous situations too. In this regard, commercial divers are distinctive from typical recreational divers, because they are well-trained in all aspects of diving safety to the point that everything they do undersea should be just right.

So, how does one become a commercial diver? First of all, you have to remember that commercial diving is different from recreational diving. Having an open water qualification is just not enough for you to become a qualified commercial diver. You still need to go to school for this type of job.

In commercial diving school, you will be taught all about dive tables and how to use them. You will also be taught about underwater welding and how to handle high explosives underwater. Safety is the most important aspect of commercial diving.

You will also be instructed on underwater communications and emergency safety measures in case something goes wrong. In commercial diving, you will also learn about the dangers of working undersea, especially in deep diving, where nitrogen narcosis is quite common. You will also learn about the symptoms of nitrogen sickness or bends and how to become aware of it if a fellow diver is suffering from nitrogen narcosis.

You will also be taught about the different air mixes necessary to diving, such as air, nitrox, and trimix. This is vital as you will be breathing it undersea. Using the wrong blend when you go deep sea diving can be fatal.

Commercial diving is a promising occupation that is full of adventure. The pay is one of the best in the world and you will also be able to utilize hi-tech scuba diving apparatus, such as rebreathers, state-of-the-art underwater scooters, undersea radio communications, as well as hi-tech industrial equipment.

Deep sea diving occupations, such as commercial diving is a rewarding occupation. If you have the courage for it and you want a occupation that is full of adventure, then commercial diving is for you. Just remember that in deep sea diving, safety must always come first.
